Ukulele

 

Our newest class is about to start on 9 September. Thank you to Magenta Appel-Pye for responding to the call and offering to teach this group. Magenta is a long term ukulele teacher with considerable experience teaching seniors. The degree of interest in this class indicates that our members have been waiting for this opportunity. 

Playing the ukulele has many benefits for seniors, including:

  • Providing cognitive stimulation, stress reduction, fine motor skills development, emotional well-being, and social engagement 
  • Enhancing cognitive abilities
  • Improving memory, concentration, and coordination
  • Exercising fine motor skills
  • Providing social interaction and community engagement
  • Fostering friendships and a sense of belonging
  • Reducing stress and anxiety
  • Stimulating brain activity, reducing the risks of depression and dementia
  • Improving coordination of finger movement and exercising the muscles of fingers and wrists

Note: This is a 12 week class to begin with. Magenta will review matters after 12 weeks to determine whether it will continue. That will be long enough for members to determine whether to upgrade their ukulele, commit more time to practicing, or tick ukulele off their bucket list.
